Garden mushroom: the highly toxic lepiote mushroom for cats
Lepiote is a vernacular name that refers in French to basidiomycete mushrooms from several different taxa, primarily from the genera Lepiota, Macrolepiota, and Chlorophyllum. The term lepiote originates from the Greek λε ́πιον, "small scale, small crust", referring to small fuzz or tiles that are the main characteristic of the cuticle of the sporophore, the surface of the cap of these mushrooms. Very common from the beginning of summer, lepiotes herald the arrival of other mushrooms and grow in clear underbrush, but especially on the edges of woods or in meadows. While some large species are good edibles, others are particularly toxic. The sliding ring like a ring – it does not meld with the surface of the stem – is an "infallible character to distinguish large edible lepiotes from small toxic lepiotes". (source wikipedia)
